Sciath na Scol - Football Round Up
Sciath na Scol football was certainly alive and well in Scoil Bhríde again this year. It was brilliant to see so many girls and boys from 5th and 6th class volunteer to play for their school. Remarkably we had over 30 girls and over 40 boys wanting to play. Unfortunately, this meant that the 5th class pupils didn’t get to play every game but they all know that next year when they are in 6th class that they’ll get to go to every game.
We were pitted in a strong group with Youghal, Rochestown, Ballygarvan and Glounthaune. Unfortunately we didn’t qualify from either the boys group or the girls group but both teams can be exceptionally proud of how they played in every game. We started off with a home fixture against Youghal. The girls were super impressive and ran out victorious after an end to end game. The boys gave it everything they had and narrowly lost out in the end. On another day, they could have won this one!
Next up was another home fixture against Glounthaune. The girls again battled extremely well and after a pulsating game had to settle for a draw. The boys yet again had another battle on their hands and unfortunately once again narrowly lost out to a very good Glounthaune team. Our first away fixture this year saw us travel to Ballygarvan. We knew going up there that they had two very good teams this year. Unfortunately for the girls it marked their first defeat of the year after they were beaten while the boys recorded their first victory of the year after a well oiled performance. Our final fixtures were away to Rochestown. In what was a pulsating affair, the girls battled and fought but lost out to a strong Rochestown team. The boys again battled hard and fought until the bitter end but their fate was similar to the girls and they lost out in the end.
Overall it was a successful campaign. We had a huge number of children play for the school and each and every single child represented their school with pride and with honour. We’re already looking forward to the hurling/camogie in the new year!!!
We’d like to thank Bride Rovers GAA club for their support and the use of their facilities to play matches. We’d also like to thank Rathcormac Community Council for the use of the community field for training. Finally, a thank you to all of our supporters and parents who cheered us on at every single game.
