catholic schools week & Grandparents day 2023
The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2023 is "Walking Together in Faith and Love." The daily themes are outlined in the poster below.
Grandparents Day takes place on Wednesday January 25th. All the classes will be completing special activities this week to share with their grandparents/special person. |
Due to the large number of pupils at our school it is no longer possible to invite all the grandparents to visit the school on Grandparents Day. Therefore, this year we hope to start a new special tradition at our school.
Grandparents of the 3rd class pupils are invited to visit our school on Wednesday Jan. 25th for Grandparents Day. We look forward to welcoming them to our school at 1.30pm for a visit to the 3rd class classrooms, as well as a short performance by the 3rd class children and some light refreshments. We hope to make this a special event and new tradition for the grandparents of all the children when they reach 3rd class going forward. |

SCHOOL REOPENING AUTUMN 2022
We are very much looking forward to welcoming all the children back to school and meeting the new Junior Infants children on Wednesday August 31st.
Please see note below on access to school during current roadworks.

Access to school during current roadworks
Scoil Bhríde will re-open on Wednesday August 31st for all pupils. The access road by the Garda Station is blocked at the moment. This road will be closed to traffic for the rest of this week. To avoid traffic congestion at the other junction, we are asking parents to park in other areas of the village and walk to the school.
Areas for parking include; on the main street and side streets, at the Community Centre, at the Rathcormac Inn etc. Parents coming from the Garrynacole direction can park in the new community field. The school bus will come into school grounds to drop off children as usual.
At collection time we ask parents to park in the areas above and walk to the school to meet children at home time. The current spell of good weather should make it easier to "park up and walk". Hopefully the roadworks will be finished for the second week and we can return to our normal "drop and go" system.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Glorious sunshine, teddy bear picnics, delicious cake and disco dancing... It must be the GREEN SCHOOLS PARTY!
We couldn't have wished for better weather to celebrate raising our SIXTH GREEN SCHOOL FLAG - GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP - LITTER AND WASTE. The day got off to a fantastic start with Sheila Mulcahy raising our sixth green flag on behalf of the cleaning staff at our school who work tirelessly to keep our environment litter free! Following this the entire school enjoyed a teddy bear picnic, basking in the glorious sunshine. It was an extra special picnic for the children in Junior and Senior Infants who got to share it with their buddies in 5th and 6th classes. There was also delicious cake for all the students to sample which was baked by our S.N.A. Helen McGrath. Following this, the children struck a pose with their friends in the Green Schools photo frame which was kindly designed by Liam Barry. We rounded off this fantastic celebration with a disco with DJ Bertie! We were so impressed by the dance moves, energy, enthusiasm (and screaming 😁) of the students at Scoil Bhríde despite the afternoon heat! It was a whole school community effort to create this very special occasion with everyone contributing and playing their part. The children will have wonderful memories to treasure forever more from what might be their first or last Green School Party.
Huge thanks and congratulations to Ms. Murphy and the Green Schools Committee for planning and organising this amazing celebration! Comhghairdeas libh go léir! 👏👏👏

HARVESTING IN OUR SCHOOL GARDEN
After a long time tending to the crops in our garden, it was time to sample the potatoes, mixed leaf salad, spinach, radishes and spring onions. We learned so much by undertaking this project and our hard work was rewarded with a wonderfully tasty feast! 😁
Thanks so much to Cathal and Emilija for helping the children in Ms. Hogan's and Ms. Hyne's classes with the school garden this year! 👏👏👏

WE GOT OUR SIXTH GREEN FLAG: GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP - LITTER & WASTE!
WE GOT OUR SIXTH GREEN FLAG: GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP - LITTER & WASTE!
Following a lot of hard work and making sustainable changes to how we do things at school and home, we were delighted to be awarded our sixth green flag which is 'Global Citizenship - Litter and Waste'. We focused on monitoring litter and waste, the correct separation of waste in our class bins in particular and also on global citizenship and the Sustainable Development Goals. We completed a school project on Kenya in 4th - 6th classes to raise awareness on life in a developing country. Our energy and water monitors continue to work hard to ensure lights are switched off when leaving the classroom, to ensure taps aren't left running and that any leaks/faulty taps are reported (amongst other duties). We are still encouraging everyone to travel to school in a sustainable way whenever possible and our school garden is beginning to flourish!
We can not wait to celebrate this wonderful achievement and plans are well underway for our big party!!! 🥳
