Lá Glas
We had so much fun at our first assembly in Junior Infants. We performed our song the ‘Hócaí Pócaí’ and watched other classes perform their songs for Seachtain na Gaeilge too. Ms. Roche said the children were super. Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone ☘️☘️

Tasting Day
We had lots of fun tasting fruit and vegetables in class together. We were all very brave and open to trying new fruits, even if we already knew we did not like it!

World Book Day
Today children and staff alike celebrated our love for books and came into school dressed as a favourite book character. We had great fun telling our friends in our class about our favourite book. Ms. Barry's 5th class pupils kindly read the Junior Infants their favourite book outside. We had a very busy day!

Autumn Walk
Our Autumn nature walk to the 'Hugging Tree' in Rathcormac. The pupils brought a bag with them and found lots of different leaves on the way. We even found some conkers on the ground at the horse chestnut tree. We had a great day for it!

Our first day in School on the 31st of August
Jolly Phonics
We use Jolly Phonics to teach letter sounds in infants. Each sound is taught with an action, a song and a story. Students learn the name of the letter and the sound it makes. During these lessons we will identify words that begin with each sound, we will sort the sounds using images, draw pictures and play games on the interactive whiteboard.
As the children learn their sounds we will be blending. Blending is the process of saying the individual sounds in a word and then running them together to make the word. For example, sounding out c-a-t and making cat.
If you want more information on the Jolly Phonics programme, this Youtube video introduces the programme and it also highlights the sounds and actions each sound makes.
