National Tree Day was celebrated across the country on October 1st and rang a sé and Colin were out in force to make sure the occasion was marked at Scoil Bhríde. Two trees were planted on the day - Juneberry and Scots Pine Sapling. The Scots Pine Sapling was very kindly donated by Glennon Brothers who are sponsoring National Tree Day.

rathcormac autumn show 2026
There was great participation across Scoil Bhríde once again this year for Rathcormac Community Council's annual Autumn Show. The children from all ages across the school did themselves so proud participating and winning prizes in so many categories such as baking, art and crafts, photography, handwriting and vegetable growing. The produce grown by the children in the school garden featured also with beetroot and carrots winning prizes also. Well done to all the children who entered and supported this wonderful event. 😊

rathcormac autumn show 2026
The Rathcormac Autumn Show show takes place on Sunday, September 27th in the Community Hall. We are encouraging a the children to take part in this wonderful annual event. The school garden will feature entrants in the growers category as always.

St. Colman's Hurling / Loreto Ladies Football blitz
Well done to all the 5th and 6th class children who participated in the St. Colman's Hurling and Loreto Ladies Football Blitz. All the children played so well and represented their school with pride on the day. Congratulations to our 11-a-side Boys Hurling team who after a dominant performance at the group stage, went on to an impressive victory in the Cup Final!!!

GLOBE awards ceremony 2026
The 6th Class pupils were delighted to be shortlisted for the GLOBE Ireland Annual Awards 2026 which took place on Tuesday May 26th at Richmond Barracks in Dublin. The event was hosted by GLOBE Ireland in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency to recognise outstanding examples of work and initiatives run at the over 200 participating schools across Ireland.
The team of Theo Skillington, Hugh J. Clerkin, Luke Buckley and Odhran Flynn presented on behalf of 6th Class on the day were delighted to win awards in three categories against very tough competition: Outstanding Air Quality Project; Outstanding Scientific Inquiry and Best Overall Junior Project! The team presented so well on the day to a large audience which included ten of the shortlisted primary schools from across the country as well as GLOBE, An Taisce and the Environmental Protection Agency. Comhghairdeas Rang a Sé!

Schools and health foundation fundraiser
David Dixon, a past pupil of Scoil Bhríde was chosen to represent his school with the Schools and Health Foundation on a trip to Sierra Leone in Africa in the first week of April. As part of this, he was fundraising money for the charity, 100% of which is used on projects in rural communities across Sierra Leone. David returned to his former school after the Easter break to talk to the pupils at Senior Assembly and share his experience from his trip to Sierra Leone with the children.

Our 5th classes are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP). Their product is
‘Blooming Bookmarks’. Blooming Bookmarks is a biodegradable bookmark with seeds in it -
every time you read a book you can plant wildflowers.
Showcase Dates:

Our new sensory Room - Thank you to the parents association!
We are delighted to announce that a refit of our Sensory Room has now been completed. The
works were completed by Creative Activity and the majority of funding was provided by the
Parents’ Association based on fundraising last year. Our sincere thanks to all parents for
supporting PA events and fundraising.

Scoil bhríde host chess exhibition
Scoil Bhríde hosted a major chess exhibition (‘Féile Fichille’) on Friday 20th March. 120 children from six schools took part in matches across the day. The boys and girls from Scoil Bhríde played really well on the day - maith sibh a pháistí! Thanks to Mr. Forde for teaching chess to all of 4th to 6th Classes and for organising the teams and the day itself. We hope to extend this down to 2nd Class by the end of the year and run our first in-school championship in the summer term.
