Stem
4th class have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to work as part of the STEM DePuy (Johnson & Johnson) school programme over the past few weeks. The children learned about renewable energy and the many ways using renewable energy sources can help the environment. During the programme, members of the team visited the school and the children made their own house and attached a wind turbine to it in order to generate electricity to light up the houses.
The highlight of the programme was our visit to the site to see a real wind turbine and take part in STEM activities with the staff. It was an amazing learning experience and a great beginning to Engineers Week in our school, inspiring many of the children to consider a career in engineering in the future!

World Book Day
It has been a wonderful week of reading and enjoying books, illustrations and learning about authors. We searched high and low around the school to find where Wally was hiding, guessed who was hiding behind each photo in the staff pictures and drew illustrations of our favourite books. On Thursday, 2nd March, we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up and bringing our favourite book to school. We took part in a Zoom call with some famous Irish authors and we were delighted when Judi Curtin answered our question about the novel Lily Steps Up. We, along with all the other classes in the school, read The Vanishing Lake by Paddy Donnelly.
A Busy Start to 4th class
