Ms. Bermingham's 1st Class
Welcome to our 1st class page! We have been very busy for the month of September settling into our new class! Take a look at some of our learning and class activities below!
History
In our class we were reading a story about schools in the past. We learned about and discussed some similarities with school today, while also learning about some of the differences between school now and school before. We went to take a look at an old school desk that we kept in our school that was used before in our old school building. Take a look at the pictures below!
Having fun at P.E Class
We enjoy our P.E classes. We have been practising our throwing and catching skills and also having fun relays. We also enjoyed our gymnastics lessons and practised various movements and rolling and balancing skills.
Autumn
As we are in the season of Autumn we have been discussing and looking at signs of Autumn. We linked this learning with our artwork and created lovely Autumn wreaths!

Healthy Eating and Food Dudes
We really enjoyed participating in the Food Dudes Healthy Eating in our class. We got to taste many types of fruit and vegetables over the 16 days. We liked trying out the different fruit and veg while also learning about how healthy fruit and veg is for us. We also did some learning about 'The Food Pyramid'. We could see what foods are in each level of the pyramid and discussed how each category is included in our food we eat. Then we also included our 'Healthy Eating' theme in our artwork. Have a look at the pictures below!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
St Brigid's day
In our class the children learned about St. Brigid. We learned about her life, how she was such a kind and caring person and about the St. Brigid's cross. We also looked at the artwork and the cross in our own school, Scoil Bhríde. The children enjoyed looking at the symbols and the reading included on the cross in, such as 'Be Kind', 'Include Everyone' and our school motto 'Ní neart go cur le chéile'. We also looked at the beautiful piece of stained glass artwork, showing the range of colours which is connected to the story of St. Brigid's Cloak.
Grandparent's Day
To celebrate 'Grandparent's Day', the pupils made very special cards and pictures for their grandparents or other special people to them. They put excellent work and effort into their writing in the cards, with lovely notes to their special people and beautiful pictures. Then they posted them to their grandparents / special person or some gave them in person. I hope they all got a great surprise when they received the cards! Below is one of the poems they included in the cards.
Grandparents
'Ears that really listen,
Arms that hug and hold,
Love that's never ending,
And a heart that's made of gold.'

'Step into Spring' Walking Challenge
We have also started a ‘Step into Spring’ walking challenge in our class. This is a schools initiative in connection with Sport Ireland and Get Ireland Walking. The aim of this initiative is to get pupils walking and active! We started our walking at the start of February and will be continuing into the middle of March. We will be doing our small walks during the school day on some days of the week. We have used the community area behind the school so far and will continue there or some small walks around the village. The pupils are enjoying the challenge and we are adding up each walk on each day we do it. Our overall aim is to reach between 10 – 15km. We are at 5km at present!
SESE / Art
In SESE class, we have been learning about Australia. We have read some interesting facts about the country and also about Australian animals. We have linked the work in SESE to our Artwork, with some lovely work on koalas and also kangaroos by using the 'Aboriginal Art' style in the work.
World Book Day
For celebrating 'World Book Day' we learned a poem called 'Open A Book' by Jane Baskwill. The poem is about the great enjoyment we can get from reading! Take a look below at our class performing the poem below! Also, photos below of pupils dressed up as many different characters for World Book Day!
