This year 5th Class are taking part in the Port of Cork Art Competition with the theme of the project being: Maintaining a Healthy Harbour. Using recycled materials and waste from the harbour, the pupils came up with their own 3D piece which was designed to make people stop and think about the amount of plastic we use and where it ends up. Their creativity and artistic skills have been put to great use and we wish them the best of luck!

Pop Art Inspired by the artist Roy Lichenstein
We have been learning about awareness and care of our environment. The pupils of 5th Class created these art works to depict the devastating effects pollution can have on the world around us. We have some talented budding artists in our midst!
Design and Make
5th Class were learning all about rockets and gravity this week. We designed our own paper rockets and measured the distance they travelled when they were launched. Some of our rockets travelled as far as three metres!
Science Week 2018
As part of Science Week 2018, the 5th Class pupils engaged in various science lessons and experiments. We investigated magnetism. We learned about the use of magnets in the world around us, we discussed how they can be used to attract and repel, we designed our own magnetic cars and used the power of magnetism to enable our cars to move! Take a look at some of our constructions below.
